After eighteen months of research and ten months of groundwork, the Savvy Business Community was launched on 11th May 2009, in London, with a bang – well, the popping of lots of champagne corks anyway. Members and guests gathered at the Wine Tun, London EC4 - www.davy.co.uk/winetunto help us celebrate in style – oh yes, and to meet the people at the heart of the Community and find out more about them. For instance, that Savvy’s Director, Sherie Griffiths, christened the company in the shower; Rob Jones, Chairman of USP Content - www.uspcontent.comw - wanted to be an actor at school – so naturally started training as an accountant before going into radio and tv – as you do!; Sue Ellen, Principal of Direct Marketing Services - www.directmarketingservices.co.uk - as well as being “A lady wot lunches”, once towed a mobile greengrocery around country lanes; Paul Smalley, MD at Paper Mountain Solutions - www.papermountainsolutions.co.uk - is mad enough to tackle the Fastnet race – twice!; and Ben Jones, Business Development Manager at Royston Simpson Creative - www.roystonsimpson.co.uk - has an unrivalled talent for pulling other people’s presentations together at the last minute – and we do mean the last minute! Sherie kicked things off by explaining how she came to set up Savvy, then Rob, Sue and Paul gave us an insight into the careers which resulted in each of them setting up their own businesses and eventually becoming part of Savvy and Ben outlined the project behind the new website and gave us a quick guided tour. Everyone on the team would like to thank everybody who helped make this a fantastic evening – all the members and guests, as well as the manager of the venue, Tim, and his staff, who were excellent. We are very pleased to announce that on the night of the launch, the Wine Tun became a commercial member! The only pity about the whole event was that, due to a technical hitch, only one photograph survives, taken by Paul and enhanced by Simpsons.Double Finalists!

We recently announced three nominations in the Basildon & District Business Awards. We are now proud to announce that we’ve reached the finals in two categories: “Business to Business” and “Businesswoman” The winners will be announced at a gala event in July. . . .The Basildon & District Business Awards

At the end of the presentations on Monday evening, Ben Jones of Royston Simpson Creative - www.roystonsimpson.co.uk announced that Savvy has been nominated for two awards: “Growing Business of the Year” and “Business to Business” Within the awards operated by Newsquest Essex - www.nqe.com Also, Savvy’s founder and Director, sherie Griffiths, who lives in Basildon, is up for “Businesswoman of the Year”.Thanks to Tom King of the Evening Echo for the nominations.. . . . .Launch Minus Three - Forthcoming Announcement
